the main engine

The main engine is a Hitachi B&W. That’s a Burmeister and Wain design built by Hitachi Shipbuilding Engineering. She was built in the fall of 1976. I guess that was just prior to the Carter Administration. Jimmy Carter had nothing to do with the construction of this engine what-so-ever. He wasn’t even president then.

She’s a big tall gray monstrosity with six cylinders capable of producing 11,200 brake horsepower. At full sea speed she turns about 130 revolutions per minute, which makes for… Continue

the engine room

the engine room, a safe place;

it’s where I’m supposed to be.

nobody complains when I’m working,

except maybe the chief.

and nobody cares about him,

he’s just a fat old version of me.

but I can’t find the door

to where I used to be.

so what happens now?

we’ll just have to wait and see.

Hey you all!
Hopeful no news means your just as busy as I have been! I can not believe it the 6th of September allready! Were does the time go. We are getting Mike off to school with minor issues, He has slept all day it is almost 5:00 pm and he is still asleep. Boy change can wear him out like no ones business!
How is Jack? How is Marjie?
Kate has been accepted to Minnesota State Universtity Mankato, so we are now on the new learning curve of getting a child into college, even though we have one full year well now it would be 11 months before she goes!
Think of you all very often hope school is going good for you both!

McLain Marjie and Jack

Thank you for shaing! I loved your phtos. Jack is truly a beautiful child, have you ever thoguht of letting him do photo ads? He is such a natural with the camera.. Wow! Thank you for finally putting a face to your names. It is nice to see you! We still look the sme as my picture on the site.
Okay I have good news and bad news, I had my latest brain scan to make sure all is okay following my brain surgery five years this January. Wow It was clear and good.... So I have one more appointment with the onocologist on the 12th to give me the all clear! Yeah!!!!!
But I seemed to have developed another issue called Trigeminal Neuroloy something like that. Meaning it attacks my nerves in my face. Wow this sucks. But than again I still have life better than many people. So that would be the bad part. I have to over come this bump in the road, but am so excited that the scan is clean for 5 years!
How is Marjie doing? I think of her often.
Are you all prepared for school? when do you actually start school?
Yes we are happy that Mike will be part of Jordan, MN "Scott West " Wrestling team. He wrestles at 150, he is a little powerhouse, he just focuses and wham he plows into those other guys like no one is there. I believe he enjoys wrestling because he has to do it all himself.
Kate will be 18 on Monday, wow do I feel old! Unreal ha? I remember like it was just days ago that we brought her home and she was so perfect, so beautiful, Now she is a strong confident young woman.
Again thank you for sharing your photos! Hope all is going well. Have a great Day!

Jordan sounds like my kind of guy. What weight class is he in. I wrestled 152 in high school, then 150 in college. EEEK. I weight about 175 now, but usually I linger around 190. I'm on the beer is too expensive diet. I've been upwards around 250 though, so you can see what a stretch 150 was. I didn't wrestle all the way through college, I needed to study. Smoke jumping sounds like my kind of thing too. My step dad was a forest ranger, and he was a fire fighter as well. He went out to all the big fires out west. I read all those Norman Mclean books and wanted to go with him, but he and I didn't get along until recently. He's actually kinda cool. He's in his late sixties and he is currently hiking the Appalachian Trail...the whole trail...what an inspiration. I'm gonna be like the Willie Nelson looking version of him; I'll be hiking the trail in my sixties with long braided white hair...

Hey Hi
Hi McLain, Marjie and Jack,
Good to hear from oyu, Yes a little jealous that you have someone from your family finally deciding to get on board with you guys!
Glad to hear that you finally gave your father a reason to live life for something other than money! I hope I never become the Mom that is such a problem in my childrens future. I want to be so there for them, not just seeing my needs to exisit.
Happy to hear about your new plans, I think you hit it on the head photojournal, wow! I think you would be awesome with it.... Your travel photos are so awesome and your writing skills are great. You have a good sense to write like people think, it flows so well.
What is Marjie thinking of doing with her schooling? What a perfect time to go to school. Jack will do so well with the new move, sad to hear that he struggles with biting at school, when I was in college I worked at a daycare center we had a nasty little boy that continued to bite....One day he got a child in a bite, in the end that child got 22 stiches....... Be careful!
Mike is doing well in Jordan with the wrestling program, he has been able to start the program with his new teammates before he officially transfers to Jordan High School. Wow they have been awsome. He feels like his transfer will be good, we do too. We have met with his new school, they get aspergers 100%.... unlike his current school.
Kate is almost done with her EMT training she had her hospital clinicials this am. They went well.
We have been on a college mission plan ourselves to trying to figure out how we are to pay for her and where she is going to go.
Mike has decided that he wants to go to Montana to Missoula for Smoke Jumping...Whew!
I will email you, it will be from Annasota
I would love to see what you have.........
When will you be moving?
Hmmmm I am being summoned from my family I better get running... I will email shortly...... Talk to you soon.

Hey you guys!
I haven't heard from you in a while how are things going? Thinking about you lately. How is that beautiful little prince of yours doing?
Hope all is going well.
We are hanging in there nothing new here, same stuff different day!
Sadly it has been since the middle of May since my family stopped talking to us! Mike is very crushed that his grandfather has nothing to do with him anymore. It is so hard to explain to him, He would never be mean why should they treat him this way!
You know the story!
How is your summer down there? Or should I say down and over there! Are you getting any of the tropical storms ? We have had a weird summer here, everything is off by one month, all our produce is not ready at the right times, it is fine but so many cities around here celebrate food festivals like rasperberry days, sweet corn days etc... Funny to see a celebration and no produce.
Are your fuel costs knocking you for a loop? It seems like the fuel went up and so did all the grocery items by at least 30% , wow...
I hope we dig out soon from this nightmare.
A few more days I will have an adult daughter, man am I getting old ha? I keep reminding myself I had her young! RIGHT!!!!!!!!!
Mike is keeping busy working a little construction this summer saving his money like no tomorrow!
He got his Permit for driving, wow! The first week he drove through a red light, he had a dumb teacher that thought it was funny to tease the kids Mike thought of course he was serious, we had to have a quick come to Jesus meeting and get him back reading the law manual and get the driving issues settled back down! What a dumb teacher to tease these kids!!!!
Well I better get off the computer have a good night!!!!!
Miss hearing from you Hi to all!

hi MacLain, thanks for the comment on my blog about " dont mourn for us" it actually has been passsed around the internet quite a bit i am told .. by the anti cure movement..i am still not all that sure a cure is a bad thing .. but the essay spoke to me .. as a parent of an aspie and an aspie myself.. i found that many of the spouses on this site are really quite bitter and disillusioned with disappointment in thier aspie partner .. and many parents still in the mode of desperately finding a way to make thier child " normal " i have never been normal .. my son has never been normal .. so i am on the fridge of joining these anti cure folks..we are who we are and everyone has issues and things they should improve on .. why do i need to be cured of my whole personaility? anyway im ranting now .. i do want to say i have followed your plight since you joined and my thoughts are with and your family often .. all the best ~ Ginger

Hey you guys, I haven't heard from you ......thought I would check in! I opened your page and caught your post about money issues. Let me tell you we are right there with you.
We thought we had the world , I was a stay at home mom that had recently returned to work, finally no more pay check to pay check.... We could really make it this time. I was woking a little less than four years when all of a sudden, my health and the brain tumor showed up, than Mike was diagnosed with Aspergers, it seemed like we owed everyone money. We did owe money all over the place.
To get services for our son, well the kicker we made too much money, to get help for me, we made again to much money. No one will take in account what we shelled out for my care or Mike's care they look at the bottom line of what is earned not spent on services for health care.
We have neighbors that have foreclosured on houses because they over spent, partied, bought boats and 4 wheelers, motorcycles and cars, cars ,cars etc.. Not us we owed money for health care.
But now I listen to people saying we should help them all get a second chance. No one has helped us with a second chance to pay our bills. After my surgery alone I still owed 26,000.00 and I had good insurance. I need a handicapped bathroom, but we are struggling to pay off medical, to get a loan is impossible both financially but also they want some super super super credit rating, sadly due to my disability it flags a credit report in a negative way it drops my score and combined with my husbands it lowers us both. I could have Mike apply by himself for it, but it is a principal too I am fighting!. Can you believe it.
We own one car, our house which is a small 1100 sq ft house. No other toys. This house was an investment turn around house, move in redo sell it and buy our dream home. But we got stuck in it with my illness wiping us out.
I am so grateful we have a roof over head and can afford it, but I would love a bathroom I can wheel my chair into and pee in pride. ( icky visual ha?) Thanks to all the people who over spent, wanted what they could not afford... they have droze the banking industry right through the roof.
So good luck too you I hope you find help my friend. All the years I worked, with the small side step for my babies I paid into all the programs to help people. I paid taxes etc....I need the help now, but we still make too much money... we are broke too. Unreal! What a catch. I wish you luck go find what is available and please include me in your findings!
PS
totally true... one doctor our son saw wanted him to do social skills work at home, our insurance would not pay for this, they told us to apply for medical assistance through the state of Minnesota, again they look at what is made not what is spent.... even though we qualified for it, our half of the monthly premuims would be nearly 800.00. Okay if I had an extra 800.00 per month, i would not need the help. And I would probably own a vacation home! DA! but better yet, I would pay the bill myself. What is too much income. 34,000.00 per year. Family of four. To get help my husband would have to quit his job and we could go 100% on county assistance, than all the issues would be paid for and we would get our monthly allowance to live on. I truly believe we would have made money. NUTS HA?????? So we went out looking and found another doctor that would allow us to do the social skills in house and our insurance paid it in full.
It so hurts me to see what Marjie went through, what happened to people helping people. Who on her medical team helped her " talk about stress" owning money you do not have. Why do doctors or hospitals not provide these services to help people. I always shake my head and think NUTS! just like our son's school, our country has promised to give our children a public education, but they will not help you find services to help the child........... Okay I am going to kick over my soap box for the night.
How are things going with your family? Are they starting to see it? Are they starting to understand it and help you? My family still is not talking to us. No loss ha? I find myself thinking a bit too much about them lately, out of amazement and wonder how they live with themselves. I have to shut that out. I can't let this consume me either.
Hugs and kisses to your two beautiful special family memebers......
Hey on 26th we will celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary WOW!
Have a great day!
