Hi Jennifer, Was this the first incident of hitting? If he was provoked were the other kids suspended too? I had that experience with my son. I don't know your state, but the need to request immediate assesments, and the bullying is unacceptable. If…

i am exhausted

I feel like everything is spinning out of control, and I just pray we continue to be blessed and land on our feet. Diabetes, it seems, has dominated all my actions in the last few weeks. Doctors, paperwork, carb counting all the meals, comparing all the labels at the grocery store..ahhhh!! I thought life was busy and crazy-hectic when we just had the Aspergers to deal with. I am trying hard not to complain, but I must get this out in hopes I can move forward. It is an entirely new grieving proce… Continue

same teacher makes a world of difference!

I wanted to let everyone know that I am amazed at what a difference our son has in his attitude towards school this year. Last year he was in a 5/6 combo class, which means all the kids have the same teacher 2 years in a row. Mr. D was really good with J last year, so we were happy about this decision between us and the school. Now that 6th grade has started, J is really making progress socially. He was actually really happy about going back to school because (in his own words) "I will have Mr.… Continue

sly park trip for 6th graders

I am asking for help or advice you can give me if you have bee through the "Sly Park
Experience" here in Sacramento, CA area. Maybe there are similar programs other places -- a bunch of schools (all 6th graders) go a on a week long campout. There are "dorms" for girls and boys and parents may attend as chaperones.
I remember going and having a blast! My son is starting 6th grade and will be able to attend this in March of next year. I have been advised by the teacher that I should think about at… Continue

abilify meds and anger outbursts

Does anyone out there have kids on Abilify, and do your kids have anger outbursts way beyond normal? I was told this medicine helps this. We have increased to 10mg/day with a lot of weight gain, and he is still having these really mad episodes (mostly when he doesn't get his way). J is 11 and heading towards adolescence, so I wonder how much of this is Aspergers and what is normal pre-teen angst?

I would love any input from ones with experience in this area. I really don't want to give him more… Continue

same fight, different day

We made it about halfway thru the summer before the kids started getting on each others nerves. I am at work most days and hubby is home with kids. We have tried to keep them busy with activities, and some down time to just relax and play. It seems that at least once a day, the kids were having what I call a blow-out. One scenario goes like this: They are both at the family computer, taking turns playing and watching each other. After some time, J might not be giving up his turn, and K will be "… Continue

This is a great website for resources. I can't wait to see Tony Attwood speak in July (Sacramento). If anyone out there has not read his book, it is well worth the small investment -- or check it out at the library. This site has signups for conferences, email newsletter and a free catalog of resources. Pass it on....

Hi Andrea --

Thanks for letting me know about this site! Even though I don't know for sure if Ben really has Asperger's yet, I noticed some comments from other moms that remind me of what Ben is like sometimes. Esp. lately, for some reason -- much more aggressive toward other kids and oppositional with authority figures.

One guy at his school thinks Ben should be on a mood stabilizer. We see Ben's psychologist and psychiatrist at Kaiser this Friday. I'll see what they suggest.

Talk to you soon!

Thanks Andrea,
I will check into that book. Maybe it will help because his scool principal wont even talk to me, it is just easier for him to push Noah to the side and not deal with him at all.
